The Bóbita Puppet Theatre was founded by Lajos Kós in 1961. The company quickly became well-known for their humorous, show-like performances both for adults and children (Opera salad, A walk in the Zoo).  
  They also had silent performances accompanied by instrumental rock music (Pink Floyd - Kalevala; Emerson, Lake and Palmer: Pictures of an exhibiton). After two decades of outstanding performance Bóbita was the first to become a professional puppet theatre in the provinces in 1981 as a section of the National Theatre of Pécs.

The Bóbita Puppet Theatre is an independent institute since 1 January 2004.

Being the only professional puppet theatre of the region Bóbita endeavours to offer exciting and attractive programmes for every age group. They have traditional performances for children based on classical tales and also outdoor shows for adults.

The International Adult Puppet Festival of Pécs is the most remarkable programme of the Bóbita Puppet Theatre every three years.
