of Zsolt Szász, Puppet Artist

Zsolt Szász (1959) puppeteer, playwright, director and actor graduated from high school in Debrecen in 1978.
From 1977 to 1985 he studied fine arts at the Medgyessy and Dési Huber Free Schools in Debrecen and Budapest respectively, and also pursued his studies at the Teacher Training College in Nyíregyháza.
He began his career in puppetry at the age of 19 at the Vojtina Puppet Ensemble in Debrecen, where he worked as a designer, director, actor and workshop manager for ten years.
In 1988 he founded his own puppet theatre called Prolihystrió.
In 1990 he was a founding member of the MéG Theater. In 1994, he co-founded the Hattyúdal theatre with Martha Tömöry. From 2006 to 2013 he was a director and dramaturge at the Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen.
From 1990 to the present day, he has been organizing the International Nativity Meeting, which was included in the Hungarian list of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
From 1993 to 2012 he was the artistic director of the Nyírbátor Winged Dragon International Street Theatre Festival.
In 2007, after several international and national recognitions, he was awarded the Blattner Prize.
From 2013 he has been a member of the National Theatre of Hungary: he works there as a dramaturge and as the editor-in-chief of Szcenárium, the art magazine of the theatre.
